Carmen: K-Pop
K-Pop is an integration of western and eastern style music. Besides singing, most of the K-Pop artists perform with trendy outfits and in-sync choreography which makes their style very unique. The history of K-Pop began in 1992 when Seo Taiji and Boys infused American pop music with Korean lyrics. This new genre of music has led to a million dollar industry that has spread to western countries. In 2012, Psy, K-Pop artist, released a song “Gangnam Style,” which has broken Youtube record with one of the most viewed video. This resulted in the staggering amount of K-Pop fans around the world. In a way, K-Pop has created an androgynous look. It is an innovative way to show self expression and breaks away from the stereotypical image of a man.
I really like “Save Me” by BTS because it has an upbeat tune, and the choreography for the music video was very different from what I listen to. In addition, the outfits were edgy and shows the trendy streetwear of Korea.
